The Tower of London

This place is not for the faint of heart. It is a museum of dead things, but with a difference, a different type of dead things!

Welcome to the Tower of London, a place of power, a fortress of fear, and a repository of some of the most dramatic stories in British history. Built by William the Conqueror in the 1070s to dominate the newly subjugated city, this historic castle has served many purposes over the centuries. To remember its various lives, just think of the acronym MOZART: a Mint, an Observatory, a Zoo, an Armoury, a Record office, and, of course, a Treasury. To walk its stone battlements and cobbled courtyards is to step into a thousand years of intrigue, betrayal, and execution.

The Tower is not just a single tower, but a complex of several structures, with the imposing White Tower at its heart. Inside, you'll find the stunning Chapel of St John the Evangelist and the "Line of Kings," a display of royal armour. But it's the stories of what happened here that truly captivate. You'll pass through the infamous Traitors' Gate, where prisoners like Anne Boleyn and Queen Elizabeth I arrived by barge, uncertain of their fate. You'll see Tower Green, the tranquil-looking spot where three queens of England met their end. You'll even hear the chilling tale of the two young princes who vanished within the fortress walls, never to be seen again.

No visit is complete without a tour led by the legendary Yeoman Warders, or "Beefeaters." These guardians of the Tower, with their distinctive Tudor uniforms, are not just guides; they are living historians who will regale you with a mix of historical fact and gallows humour. Their stories, steeped in centuries of tradition, are an unmissable part of the experience.

And then there are the ravens. At least six ravens are kept at the Tower at all times, for legend holds that should the ravens ever leave, the kingdom will fall. Their well-being is the responsibility of the Ravenmaster, and their presence adds a final layer of ancient superstition to this magnificent and eerie place. But no one is allowed to take away the Crown Jewels, the most incredible pieces of art that make you draw a breath. This collection of priceless royal ceremonial objects and precious stones, all on display within the Tower's fortress walls, is an absolute highlight for every visitor.

Queen's Crown

The Tower of London is a truly immersive experience that brings the darkest chapters of history to life. It's a place where legend and reality intertwine, and where every stone seems to hold a secret.
